Graspop Metal Meeting 2026: a fusion of hard-hitting genres and metal fans

Dessel, 21 June 2026 - "It's the Final Countdown." It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate soundtrack for the fourth and final day of Graspop Metal Meeting 2026. While Europe heralded the dying hours of this year’s festival, a sold-out arena looked back on four days of memorable performances, sweltering temperatures, looming storm clouds and, above all, an undying passion for heavy music.
For the 29th time, Dessel was the epicentre of the international metal scene. From uncompromising hardcore to thrash and folk metal, and from nu-metal and punk rock to metalcore: GMM has long been a festival where different genres not only coexist but thrive. As always, four days of Graspop Metal Meeting catered to every metal taste known to man.

The opening day set the stage. As temperatures soared to tropical highs, the organisers took additional measures to ensure the 55,000 music fans could enjoy their favourite music under the safest of circumstances. From additional drinking water taps, misting water cannons, cooling fans and free sunscreen to crew members treating the fans to refreshing showers with metres-long water hoses, nothing was left to chance.
The last-minute absence of Tom Morello resulted in one of the surprises of the opening day. The Belgian Rage Against the Machine tribute band Bulls on Parade stepped up and their show developed into and unexpected declaration of love for what is undeniably one of the most influential rock bands. Within Temptation returned to celebrate their thirtieth anniversary in style. Megadeth’s ninth GMM appearance, with Belgian powerhouse drummer Dirk Verbeuren behind the kit, was a fitting epitaph to a stellar career in thrash. Nothing fazes the GMM faithful, not even storm clouds gathering over Dessel. "My Way or the Highway": Limp Bizkit owned the festival arena with a mix of nostalgia, unbridled energy and a super tight show. The Offspring closed out the day’s festivities with a slew of hits as thousands of throats screamed every word as one.
On Friday, Graspop Metal Meeting put the pedal to the metal. Frank Carter & The Sex Pistols supplied one of the weekend’s most talked about performances that proved that punk has lost none of its bite. In between all the guitar violence, Belgian heroes Triggerfinger supplied a welcome interlude, conquering the metal crowd with their signature groove. As night came down, surprise headliners Knocked Loose pulled out all the stops and left the festival arena in state of controlled chaos. Volbeat took a different approach but their captivating set chock-full of hits had the same impact.
Saturday was all about the confrontation between past and present. Early on, Malevolence set the bar high with a crushing truckload of hardcore and thrash; Sepultura crowned forty years of metal with one last triumphant set for the GMM crowd. As daylight started to fade, the new generation took over. Bad Omens made a lasting first GMM impression, confirming their status as a crowd favourite. Bring Me The Horizon rounded out the day with a show that epitomised everything modern metal stands for. The highlight came during 'Kingslayer' as BABYMETAL joined the band on stage for an explosive rendition of their collab.
The final festival day yielded the floor back to the household names. The day got off to a great start with Europe, Extreme and Foreigner proving that experience and recognisability will always get a festival crowd moving. Later this evening it’s up to elder statesman Alice Cooper to keep the adrenalin flowing and with Def Leppard and headliners Sabaton, the line-up has two more crowd favourites in store. Meanwhile Electric Callboy is chomping at the bit to shake things up with their outrageous mix of electronica, metal and humour. Perhaps this where the true essence of Graspop Metal Meeting lies: a place where classic rock icons, modern metal heroes and everything in between can organically share the same festival arena and a boundless love for heavy music.
As the final notes fade into the distance on the Dessel plains, the impressive machine behind the scenes keeps things moving along at full throttle. The organisers would like to thank all staff, volunteers, emergency services, partners, artists and visitors for turning this edition into another one for the history books.

This edition in just a few short words? The huge musical diversity and temperatures hotter than hell’s furnace, but more than anything that unique community feeling that has been the beating heart of the festival for so many years. From enthusiastic teenagers to dyed-in-the-wool metal veterans, Graspop Metal Meeting is a place where fans of all generations and subgenres share the same love of heavy music and each other. That feeling of solidarity was tangible throughout the weekend. Festival-goers looked out for each other and those who needed a shoulder or had something to report could always rely on the amazing We Care A Lot-team.
Graspop Metal Meeting also mourns the passing of one of its fellow metalheads here at the festival during the weekend. He is in our thoughts, and our love and support go out to his family, friends and loved ones.
We went ‘To Hell and Back’, but tonight we belt those lyrics alongside Sabaton at the top of our lungs as Graspop Metal Meeting concludes another memorable edition full of metal unity and unforgettable moments.
Out with the old, in with the new. On 17, 18, 19 and 20 June 2027 Graspop Metal Meeting will once again land in Dessel for a very special appointment: the festival’s 30th edition. Mark the dates on your calendar and gear up for a gigantic birthday bash.
Stay metal!
